Our mission

The mission of the Village Diary project is to enhance access to legal, social and health services for orphans, vulnerable children and widows experiencing different forms of abuses. It also serves as a platform to track the cultural and historical background of families and villages.

Our vision

We seek to assist in formalizing family institutions through establishment of marriage licenses, birth certificates and last wills and testaments. By providing secure access to digital backups of these documents to authorized case workers, we aim to alleviate the problems that arise after the death of a leading family member. The Village Diary project provides a voice for impoverished women and children while also providing a forum for change. At the same time, it gives insight into the daily lives and cultural practices of a people by telling stories in their own words.

Our goals

  1. Operate an online database that documents and shares case files of women and children to be utilized for education, research and advocacy purposes.

  2. Establish institutional partnerships to enhance legal, social and health services and facilitate access of these services to orphans and women.

  3. Strengthen existing support networks for women within the socio-cultural context of each community.

  4. Record cultural, environmental and historical changes of the people and villages involved in the project.
